Deborah Wu specialises in intersectional gender equality and is Diversity & Inclusion Research and Content Manager at Diversity Council Australia. She was previously Gender Equality Advisor at Women’s Health East (WHE), supporting public sector organisations, universities and councils to realise the transformative opportunities of the Victorian Gender Equality Act 2020. Prior to this, Deborah was Inclusion & Diversity Lead at the Victorian Local Governance Association (VLGA), where she led the organisation’s efforts to address the underrepresentation of groups including women, people from emerging and migrant backgrounds and young people in local government decision-making. In this role, she also worked with councillors and council officers on building capacity and capability in gender equality, prevention of violence against women and intersectionality across the Victorian local government sector. Her previous work experience includes roles in state and federal government. Deborah holds a Bachelor of Arts in Politics & International Studies (minor Media & Communications) from the University of Melbourne and a Graduate Certificate in Family Violence from the Chisholm Institute. She was an inaugural fellow of the Trawalla Foundation/University of Melbourne’s Pathways to Politics for Women program in 2016.

  • Moving from passive to proactive: What does proactive allyship look like, and how to empower allies in your workplace to drive meaningful change together?

  • Strengthening allyship through role modelling empathy and integrity to build safe, inclusive spaces

  • Addressing institutional and unconscious bias by asking questions and raising awareness when issues arise
